Retiree Health Care for Retirees NOT Covered Under Contract Health Care

Admin / Uncategorized /

Retiree Update-New Date for Argument on Motion to Dismiss November 2, 2015 at 1pm–Still need hardship statements ASAP!!!!!

For retirees that retired after 1989 and without the contractual benefit of the age 55 enhanced health care option, the city mailed out new retiree rates, with an October 6 deadline to select a plan.  These rate increases are astronomical.  For example, a retiree and his spouse, who are not yet Medicare eligible, will pay $22,080 for health care in 2016.  I spoke to Attorney Clint Krislov who related, “We had no advance notice from the City on this, not even the courtesy of copies the same day they went out. We’re working on a response for this week, to seek an injunction against the city from raising the rates or changing the plan at least until the court rules. One of the things we’ll need is sworn statements from annuitants.” (Click here for Blank Sworn Statement).

He also related that the next court date is October 26th in Judge Cohen’s courtroom at the Daley Center Room 2308. If you are able to contribute to the legal expense, please do so to Clint Krislov,  Krislov & Associates, Ltd.  Civic Opera Building, Suite 1300 20 North Wacker Drive  Chicago, Illinois 60606 Phone: 312-606-0500 Fax: 312-739-1098

Chicago Police Sergeants Memorial

Admin / Uncategorized /

Update:

Construction of the Chicago Police Sergeants Memorial is underway outside the Association office at 1616 W. Pershing Road.  The brick paver and commemorative plaque tribute to the 56 men and women that have died in service to our department and to our city should be completed a bit ahead of the original Labor Day goal.  Once completed, we will schedule a dedication ceremony and open house to enable our members to visit the Memorial.  Thanks to all who contributed to make this idea a reality.  Stay tuned…

53rd Annual Golf Outing

Admin / Uncategorized /

Thank you to all of the participants and sponsors of our Annual Golf Outing and Raffle that supports the Active Sergeant Death Benefit.  Well over 200 golfers and guests enjoyed the day and their generosity was again overwhelming.  The outing and raffle are the only funding source for this benefit that immediately pays $5,000 to the family or loved one of a sergeant that passes away.  Without your help, we would be unable to sustain this benefit.  Thanks again for your continued support of this important fund.

Chicago Police Sergeants Memorial

Admin / Uncategorized /

The Chicago Police Sergeants’ Association will be constructing a memorial to honor the men and women who gave their lives in the performance of their duties as a Chicago Police Sergeant.  Each deceased sergeant will be memorialized on a brick paver.  These memorial bricks will be surrounded by additional bricks that can be purchased and personalized.  Now is your opportunity to honor a friend, a career, a family, or anything that you choose to memorialize in this tribute to our fallen Sergeants.   The space for the memorial is limited, so only 340 bricks will be available.  Please order your piece of Association history today.  As soon as we receive the orders for 340 bricks, construction of the memorial can begin.  Click here for the on-line order form.  For more information and a printable order form click on CPSA Memorial Brick Program or call 773-376-7272.  Thank you for considering your donation to honor the men and women of the Association who gave their lives in service to the City of Chicago.  We will never forget their sacrifice.

Mayoral and Aldermanic Endorsements

Admin / Uncategorized /

This year’s election comes at a critical time when the City of Chicago faces great challenges. The Association’s Political Action Committee looked carefully at the responses to our questionnaires that were sent to all of the candidates. Of the mayoral candidates that responded and appeared in front of the Committee, Bob Fioretti responded most favorably to our concerns regarding pensions, promotions, retiree health care, and overall strategies to combat crime and violence. Additionally, Bob Fioretti expressed his vision for the future of the Police Department and the City of Chicago, which ultimately led to the decision to endorse Bob Fioretti for Mayor of the City of Chicago. We ask that you support the candidacy of Bob Fioretti and to urge your family and friends to support him as well. The Committee relied on the questionnaires and support from members and community to recommend these endorsements. We ask that you support all of the Association’s endorsed candidates, but most importantly, participate in the election process by voting in February.

About the C.P.S.A.

The Chicago Police Sergeants’ Association (C.P.S.A.) was established on September 6, 1907. The Association became incorporated on March 3, 1978 and was organized for the purpose of forming an association comprised of men and women who were employed by the Department of Police, City of Chicago and who hold or have held the rank of Sergeant. The goal of the corporation was, at that time, to through the united effort of the members, to promote the best possible working conditions for the members of the association (...“Nothing herein shall be deemed to authorize the corporation to act as a union.”).

In 1998 the C.P.S.A., became a member of the Police Benevolent & Protective Association (PB & PA of Illinois). As the CPSA, the association still actively maintains a social and fraternal organizational structure. As Unit156A of the PBPA, Illinois, the Chicago Sergeants have expanded their horizons and have become not only a fraternal organization but a labor union created to protect the rights of its’ members and to advance their best interests and concerns through the bargaining process.

Mission

The mission of the Chicago Police Sergeants' Association is to promote the fair and equitable treatment of all Chicago Police Sergeants; to provide assistance to any Sergeant who has been wronged by the city or department, who have had their contractual rights denied, as well as those who have been denied the rightful benefits that their employer provides; to prevent any type of job discrimination, unfair practices, reprimands, or suspensions which may arise; to work diligently for and with all Sergeants while acquiring and maintaining the best possible working conditions and benefits for all members through the collective bargaining process;maintain and promote a social as well as a fraternal organization; provide assistance to all members and their families in their time of need; and promote the morale and welfare for the collective good of all Sergeants of the Chicago Police Department.
